Write less than you think
A caption should be readable at phone size. Use one or two short lines, a light color on a dark photo or the reverse, and turn the shadow on when the background is busy.
Place text in the top, center, or bottom third, then download the PNG. Resize it for Instagram or YouTube afterward if the platform needs a specific frame.
