Collect the URLs first
A sitemap is a list of canonical URLs you want crawled. Include public pages such as the homepage, key landing pages, and articles. Leave out admin screens, thank-you pages, and filtered search URLs.
Paste paths or full URLs, one per line. Paths are joined to the base URL. Full URLs are kept as written.
Set dates and priority honestly
lastmod should change when the page content changes, not on every deploy of an unchanged page. Priority is a hint, not a ranking boost. Give the homepage 1.0 and deeper pages a lower value.
Use Replace the current list when the paste is the full site. Leave it off when you only want to append new URLs.
Publish the file
Download sitemap.xml, upload it to the site root, and add the sitemap URL to robots.txt. Then submit it in Google Search Console.
