Length beats complexity theater

A longer random password is usually stronger than a short one packed with a few symbols. Aim for at least 16 characters for important accounts, and longer for shared infrastructure secrets.

Use a password manager

Generate unique passwords for every site and store them in a manager. Reusing passwords is far riskier than forgetting a complex string you never typed by hand.

When symbols matter

Include uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols when a service allows them. If a site rejects some characters, generate again with a compatible set rather than weakening the password manually.
